Mechanical Division Overview:

In the Mechanical Division, we focus on optimizing energy efficiency and creating innovative designs to enhance the overall performance of our chemical vehicles. To achieve these goals, we utilize advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software and 3D printing technologies. These tools allow us to model and prototype vehicle components accurately, ensuring that each design iteration aligns with our efficiency and sustainability objectives. By harnessing these digital technologies, we can simulate and refine the structural integrity and aerodynamics of our vehicles before moving into physical production, saving time and resources.

In addition to design and prototyping, our division is responsible for implementing a variety of mechanical and circuitry components into the chemical vehicle. These components are critical to ensuring that the vehicle operates safely and efficiently. We work collaboratively to integrate systems that control everything from propulsion to energy management. By focusing on precise and reliable mechanical and electronic integration, we ensure that the vehicle’s performance is not only optimized for speed and efficiency but also adheres to green measures that are in line with our broader environmental goals.

Current Design and Next Steps:

Currently, we have completed the design for the circuitry box and are currently working on the CAD model for the injection mechanism and holder. By taking measurements from previous cars, we’ve realized it’s more efficient to reuse certain parts while redesigning those with issues. As a result, our next steps are to start the 3D printing process so that we can start testing and refining the vehicle chassis and pipette holder to improve overall performance.

Gain Skills and Experience:

As a general member, you will have the opportunity to learn and further develop your skills in:

  • CAD Software: Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • 3D Printing: Learning how to slice 3D prints, choose tolerance, infill, etc

No experience is needed! If you are interested in these topics, we will hold workshops in the beginning of the year where you can learn and develop your mechanical design skills while having fun with others in the team!
