Circuitry Division Overview:
The circuitry division of UTCV is in charge of developing any and all of the electrical systems and related algorithms which control the vehicle. Our main responsibilities are:
- To interface a microcontroller with the colour sensor, read values, and correctly determine the reaction endpoint, thus cutting off power to the motors at the right time.
- Regulate the voltage coming in from the battery created by the power division, ensuring a consistent supply to the motors and as a result, constant velocity.
Current Design and Next Steps:
Currently, we are focused on the Arduino testbench needed for reactions testing. We have completed the code to interface with the colour sensor, and are almost done with the automatic stopping algorithm.
Our next steps would be to fine-tune the threshold indicating end of reaction, as well as start on voltage regulation and integration with the entire vehicle! This year, we are also looking to incorporate either a WiFi or Bluetooth module onto our microcontroller, so that we can collect data remotely!
Gain Skills and Experience:
As a general member, you will have the opportunity to learn or further develop your skills in:
- Coding: particularly in the Arduino C language
- Soldering: crucial for second-year courses and PCB assembly
- (Potentially) PCB Design: knowledge of Altium and related software, circuit design, etc.
No experience is needed; we will hold workshops on the basics in the beginning of the year, and you will develop your skills further in your tasks while collaborating with each other throughout the year!
